It is as good as the other reviews say. So good in fact, that you can't stop playing with it, and here is the problem - the gorgeous screen finishes the battery within ~4 hours. In standby and normal use (not much talking) it lives fine for a day, maybe even 2.
I've heard a rumor the new 2.3.4 improves the battery life over the original 2.3.3, but you'd have to root the phone as it's not official yet. so far I don't have the burning need for that.

You'll be able to see most internet sites just fine, also writing some notes and emails is bearable. I had issues trying to submit this review from it, though (it has issues handling the big open text boxes, especially in horizontal mode).

Wi-Fi reception is decent; not as good as in laptops or my old Nokia E71, but usually good enough.
Another plus on this matter - free internet access points requiring you to hit 'ok' on their start page are now accessible for web browsing and then to any other app (unlike E71).

Amazon site mentioned international warranty, but I didn't find any document on that in the box. Keeping the receipt and hoping I won't need to use the warranty which I suspect I don't really have. BTW, the device woke up in Spanish, but asked from the start which language I prefer. So it probably comes from Latin America...

As long as you're ready for the few drawbacks, it's a great device.By galaxier

Samsung Behold T919 Unlocked Quadband Phone

Introducing: New Smart Phone , the gadget set which is most popular this century, will offering easiness and its best facilities, is a good choice with a brand that you can trust which is certainly will be a superb acquisition.

Since making it’s debut, maintained its edge through with so many on offer recently. So, will be an easy choice. Many people wants everything that thier works be easy by one gadget and is a solution.

This was purchased in 2009 with a contract renewal with T-Mobile for $250 (with rebate). This is the Samsung SGH-T919 or "Behold" as it's known. This is the American release of the Samsung F480 Tocco handset released in the European and Asian markets.

I was very impressed with this handset. I had been a faithful Motorola and LG consumer in the past, but when my fiance (now wife) got this I was so impressed that I sold my LG KU990 "Viewty" and got a Samsung M8800 Pixon, similar to the Behold but with an 8-MP camera and 3.2" screen. Handling is excellent. It feels weighty in the hand and makes it easy to hold on to. It's high quality and good-looking too. It's made of metal and plastic, but feels hefty. The battery cover is made out of aluminum with a brushed finish. You can get it in different colors: espresso and rose pink.

It's a TFT touchscreen "bar" handset. It's compact at 4.1 in. high, 2.1 in. wide, and .5 in. thick, which made it one of the most compact touch screen devices of the time. It weighs about 4 ounces.

It has a 3 in. TFT touchscreen with 240x320 pixels and 256k colors. The screen is very responsive (for a resistive type screen) and has haptic feedback (small vibrations when you tap the screen). The screen has good resolution, is bright, and doesn't wash out in direct sunlight as some others did.

The feature set is impressive:

Quad-band GSM
UMTS 2.1 GHz.HSDPA 3G 3.6 MBps. and WCDMA connectivity
Class 10 EDGE 2G
Full QWERTY virtual keyboard with predictive text input/T9, alphanumeric input.
Accelerometer for auto-rotate portrait/landscape modes
Haptic feedback vibration
MP3 polyphonic downloadable ringtones
1000 entry phonebook with photocalling capability
MicroSD card capability up to 8GB
A2DP V. 2.0 Bluetooth
USB V. 2.0
MIDP Java 2.0 compatibility
5 MP camera with autofocus, dual LED flash
QVGA video recording
Full HTML supported Web browser
WAP 2.0/xHTML
Multimedia player plays MP3, MP4, WMA, WMV, AAC, and WAV format
Document viewer Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe PDF files
Digital organizer, calendar, voice recording/memo

and a lot more...

This phone isn't a "smartphone" so you won't get a full email client with Outlook or document editor software or other features, but you do get a great multimedia device that will do just about everything you want it to do. the 5 MP camera takes great pictures with a lot of color, clarity, and details. Macros are also good. You get a great user interface for the camera functions with a ton of adjustable functions. You get a digital zoom, autofocus, multiple scene modes (sport, night, and others you'll find on a digital camera). However, low-light shots are very noisy and the flash overexposes them (it's too powerful at close range, which is what it's meant for). Videos are good enough to be useable, but don't expect much. This isn't D1 video recording.

Texting is very easy and fun because the screen is sensitive and the keyboard is large and well laid-out. The full HTML Web browser with 3.6mbps 3G is one of the Behold's highlights and it works great. Web pages loaded fast, but there's no Flash support and the interface is less than smooth. The media player is simple and easy to use, but it's hampered by the lack of a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. You get Samsung's proprietery jack with an adaptor for a 3.5mm jack. There's no MicroUSB jack either. You use a supplied cable with Samsung's own connector.

The user interface is Samsung's TouchWhiz, which gives you customizable Widgets that can be accessed from a pop out sidebar or by dragging them onto the "desktop." It's a good UI, but it limited by its lack of customization. Thanks to Java 2.0 support, games worked great and there are a lot to choose from on T-Mobile's T-Zones.

So there it is in a nutshell. After 2 years of use and abuse (went for a swim in a toilet the camera died but everything works great!) this is still a great phone. It's durable, high quality Samsung hardware with useful and practical features.

The only gripes I have is the lack of WiFi connectivity (a BIG one in my book), the standard 3.5mm headphone jack, and a bigger screen.By SirStinky "Sirstinky" (Vancouver, WA USA)

I purchased this phone and so far had only pleasant experience. Great camera with a lot of options, friendly interface and so far so on. windows mobile is a great software that basically allows you to have the mini computer in your pocket. The only negative side of it is that it has too many options.

Samsung Omnia II Sch-i920 Smartphone is great to just copy movies from the home computer and watch them on the phone without downloading extra codecs. Sound is perfect! W-HD - nothing sounds better! sometimes it takes me a while to figure out how to do what want to be done. the name 'Smartphone'speakes for itself.. :) But once you figure everything out the phone basically becomes your best friend!

Suggestions:
Do not use any build in Verizon programs such as VZ Navigator. 1.99 a day and 7.99 a week - this is just ridiculous! Especially when you can download any navigators online for free and use them for free..!
another thing is the battery... I was really disappointed when the battery lived less than 1 day, but after reading several forums I realized how to make it work longer.

First of all, when you just purchased the phone let it die completely, then let it charge the whole night. in the morning unplug the phone, and take the battery off. let it sit for a couple minutes and then plug the battery in and charge it for additional 30 minutes.. Also do not forget turn off useless Verizones programs - they eat the battery because of non stop Internet access. Afte 3 days I still have 20% left of the battery..By Vlas

The phone works great if you know how to use it!

I bought this phone unlocked because i live in Costa Rica, so i needed a phone which works with the local carrier, and this phone turn to be the best purchase i could do, it works with the 850mhz 3G network of the ICE(Costa Rica s goverment carrier) and the android 2.2 Froyo installed works perfect, with a brilliant 4inch amoled and the fast 1ghz processor.

I recomend to buy also an Otterbox Box Case for this device, which fits great. I bought it at $374.99 and is the best deal i could find for a phone with this technical details.By The Black Knight (Miami)

I bought this exact model (but with a green back cover) in China in October 2011. I needed something cheap, and I needed it fast. I didn't want to spend too much money, because I wouldn't be there for more than a few months. My only reason for purchasing it was to call people, send texts, use Google Translate, and use Baidu maps to get around. Fortunately, I was also able to tether right out of the box as well -- and connect my laptop when I was in rural China.

If you're a frequent traveler, global roaming is a giant money scam. I suggest buying yourself an unlocked phone, and just switching in SIM cards in the country of your choice... if they support them. Many places will let you pay month-to-month. For example, in China, I'll pay about $10.50 per month for a pretty decent package. Compared to the global roaming packages, this is a steal.

You need to ask yourself: what do you want, and how much are you willing to pay for it? If you want an awesome smartphone, go buy something else. But if you need a smartphone which allows you to do the basic things such as texting, calling, tethering, and web surfing, then this is actually pretty good... if you can deal with the small resolution.

The Camera is actually pretty decent as well. It was much better than I anticipated.

Make sure you get a MicroSD card (up to 16GB) if one doesn't come with this. Use that to install applications on, rather than the paltry 160MB of built-in storage.

Cons:
- Terrible screen resolution (240x320)
- Low built-in storage space
- Low amount of ram
- Terrible battery, but I kept it plugged in most of the time.
- Performance isn't perfect.

Pros:
- It actually works very well, and it's extremely stable.
- Upgrades to Gingerbread easily. Google the instructions. This requires root.
- After upgrading to Gingerbread, you can install Cyanogen Mod, etc...
- Most of the time, it runs pretty good.
- The camera is actually pretty decent.

You may also need to download and install the Google apps package if it doesn't come with the phone (mine didn't). Again, Google this for more information.

Remember, you get what you pay for. For this price range, the phone is actually pretty good. However -- as of this post -- there may be much better phones for the same price, or a few dollars more. It might be worth it to skip this phone entirely and find something else. If you can afford it, try to go for something with a bigger screen, and better everything else. Otherwise, this phone is solid, but probably isn't for people with bad eyesight.

I'll be using this phone often on my international travels, at least until I break down and buy the Note. It satisfies all of my basic requirements, and then some. It's not perfect, but it gets the job done.By Xiong Mao

Samsung S5830L Galaxy Ace - Unlocked Phone

Have two of these phones for a couple of weeks. One phone works perfectly, no issue whatsoever. The other one has the SOD ' Sleep of Death' issue multiple times. SOD = phone shuts itself off. Google solutions and tried them all but nothing works. Downloaded the lastest OS - Gingerbread 2.3.4 thru Samsung Kies but issue remains. This one is going back for an exchange. Neither of the phone is rooted.

Overall I really like the phone, value vs. price and I think you are not going to get a better deal. A good beginner android phone that is almost iphone like.

Pros: Screen size 3.5" is perfect for me. The overall phone size isn't too big either. Plenty of free apps to download. Gingerbread improves the battery life.

Cons: Internal memory is small. You won't be able to download a lot of apps. And you can't install the apps to the external SD card unless you root the phone (become a superuser) but that immediately voids the warranty. I read somewhere that you can un-root the phone if needed... Last minor issue, the touch screen isn't as sensitive as I like it but this could be the problem with having a Zagg shield on.

Update 9/9/11: Received the replacement but it is also going back to Amazon. This time I didn't even power up the phone, the problem is on the touchscreen, there are 6 spots (about the size of a dime) that cannot be cleaned, looks like it is actually on the other side of screen. This is really getting old, all I want is another phone withour issue. And dealing with the exchange process is a nightmare. At least exchanging wireless phone is totally different than exchaning anything else Amazon sells. Stay tune...By Larry

After a deep research on the internet about new phones, i decided to change mi Great Nokia 5800 for an android based phone. Galaxy Ace was the best Cost-Benefit choice. Big challenge for me to change my Symbian system, because use to be really stable and well done. Comparing the experience with symbian and nokia phones as a reference, the change to Android is awesome. You can feel the difference due to the best hardware set up... 800Mhz processor and 277MB RAM memory. Both, SO and processor make a huge difference.

Looks great, big screen (quick response, sensitive), Light, fast... really fast, with the android market ant thousands of apps, many of them free.

Only one big issue: battery life. I have been trying to configure it to get the best battery performance, but until now... no more than One day using randomly the wifi to be synchronized and using the web. For me, is not a big deal because i use to work close to my office, so i have the opportunity to recharge it during the day easily, but for those people working without an energy outlet close, and forced to use data connection all the time, this phone will be a problem. . That is why i am not giving the 5 stars; but could be a nightmare for another kind of phone users. That problem is suppouse to be improved with the new Gingerbread firmware, which i am waiting for (samsung announce it few days ago).

If you get this phone, charge the battery for the first time at leas 12 hours. Does not matter if the phone announce the full charge, that issue makes a huge difference with the battery life. For some reason, even with the full charge activated on the screen, the battery will continue receiving charge and increasing the usage of the battery.

I am impressed about how easy is the synchronization with google software: calendar, gmail, docs, etc and also with facebook and tweeter accounts to get information of your contacts.

Very nice and powerful phone.By Jairo Nunez "Alejofly" (Cali, Colombia)

After some usage, I can tell I have used this cellphone enough for writing a review. It is a nice phone with really cool features. The size is good enough for you to handle it comfortably. The camera takes good quality photos but not so good quality videos.

It only works on GSM so Internet browsing is slow --probably also depends on the provider-- The bluetooth is easy to turn on/off and the speaker is really good for conferencing as it's very loud. The screen sensibility is cut at the corners/borders. It reads MP3s and the FM Radio works only with the earphone but it is OK. The games it comes with are really good --especially the sudoku one-- I plugged a 4GB microSD class 4 card and no problems detecting the card or uploading/downloading stuff from it.By MAC (San Jose, Costa Rica)

HTC HD7 Unlocked Global Smartphone

Costumer Review about HTC HD7 , One of the best phones I've used. I've tried other smartphones and this one is very good. First I'll talk about the phone hardware then the OS.

Hardware:

Very solid phone, beautiful and large screen and the feel of the device is very nice in the hands. The rubberized material on the back lets you hold the device without dropping it. Feels pretty light and really this is the size smartphones should be; the screen is absolutely perfect.

The power button I feel is a little small - it needs to be a little taller so its easier to push to power on, maybe its just the case I have it in now that makes it a little hard to push in.

Volume switches - I find I accidently push these quite often and it changes the volume. While it's great they are available we should have an option to lock the volume rocker/buttons so they dont constantly keep changing the volume.

Camera button - very nice and allows you to quickly take photos with a single click!! The camera does have an issue where it makes whites look pink - there is supposedly a fix coming from htc to address this; appaerantly this same bug was in the htc hd2 and htc fixed that; this is a problem with htc's driver not with windows phone 7. The dual led flash on this device is fantastic and allows you to take nice bright photos at 5 megapixel - obviously not the best camera in the world at 5mp but for a cell phone its really good. HTC throws in a nice flashlight app that they make which allows you to use the dual leds as a flashlight anytime you want - its really really bright - in a pitch black room it lights the entire room up - crazy cool!

Soft buttons - the buttons on the bottom of the screen - back, windows and search work great and are very responsive - touch them and easily take you back to the main screen, go back in an application or launch the search applications. Many times if you accidentally press these buttons while in a game you can easily drag your finger away and it wont kill the game and take you out of it - very nice feature so you dont accidentally keep quitting an app/game.

The speakers on this device are pretty good; I havent had any problem at all with these speakers and they are quite loud when listening to music, playing games or on the speakerphone with someone else. The clarity is pretty good too.

The sound quality on the device is excellent when taking calls; recipients have no problem hearing you either.

Call quality/signal - no problems at all with this phone; havent had a single dropped call when using this phone, you can easily switch to speaker phone at anytime by tapping on the screen and choosing the speakerphone option - switching is instant and smooth.

Battery life - I easily get one and 1/2 days usage out of this even with wifi and 3g on. Very good phone even if you are very busy and need to do some browsing, emailing and taking calls. Recharging the phone is pretty quick too whether you plugin to the wall or your computer. The plug is a standard micro? usb plug. It comes with an adapter that allows you to plug the standard usb end into a wall socket to get AC power too - very nice design.

How about Software:

The new Windows Phone 7 OS is very fluid, slick and responsive - no slow downs at all and smooth all the way through. Very easy to understand and use. You simply swipe down and up to choose any application you want. Need something on the 'homescreen' simply tap and hold it - whether its a contact from your address book, an app, or a game you can easily organize and choose whatever you want to be on the front.

Swipe to the right and you have the entire list of all applications installed. All games are organized in the xbox live section so there is no clutter. The operating system was very well thought out and organized and is not a mess of static icons found on other smartphones.

Live tiles are excellent - when the weather upates - it shows you the temperature and the conditiosn outside (snowing, rain, sunny, cloudy, fog, etc). It shows you the day and month, time obviously, how many emails you have, how many voice messages you have, how many missed phone calls. You don't need to keep pressing deep down to find this information - its all right there on the main screen. If you want to pull the phone out of your pocket and glance down you can do that too right on the lock screen - it shows all of that information there too. Beautiful and efficient; no fiddling all day with your phone unless you really want to.

Over 4000 applications are now available in the marketplace, many of the games available are xbox live compatible - full gamerscore, achievements, buddy lists, invites, sending/receiving messages all built right in. These games are not cheap ports from other smartphone os's - these are all highly polished and unique games built from the ground up for Windows Phone 7. You have alot of great games like assassins creed, need for speed, deblob, frogger, guitar hero, hexic, max and the magic marker, project sunburst (crackdown), puzzle quest 2, the harvest, sims 3, uno.

A ton of great indie games too like - birdy bounce (like doodle jump), impossible shoota, unite. There are many more games and applications. You have great applications like Netflix - you can watch full movies from your instant queue, add items to your queue. AP Mobile - read about news events from around the world, ebay - see your auctions, bid on items, manage you account, flixster - see what movies are happening in your area, showtimes, locations, top movies, news. Built in youtube app that lets you watch youtube movies.

The built in applications like Office let you view/edit ord documents, view/edit excel documents, view powerpoint presentations, view/edit onenote, outlook - view your email from multiple providers - hotmail, google, yahoo, any email provider - very intuitive and easy to use interface. Internet Explorer - optimized and is a really good browser now; pinch to zoom and scrolling in internet explorer works perfectly, loading pages is excellent and fast - no real faults at all with the new internet explorer. Music/Videos player is basically the zune interface - beautiful; manages all your videos and music here and if you have a zune pass you can listen to your music from right here - this works in the background too and you can play games and surf the web using this application in the background.

With so much good, what can be bad?

  • No multitasking for third party apps - we need the ability to multi-task and choose what we want running in the background. Some apps really do need multitasking.
  • Copy/paste - this is a minor issue but it can come in handy when copying things from a webpage/word and emailing it to others - this is being added in a January OS update from Microsoft.
  • HTML 5 support - currently internet explorer does not support html5; this really needs to be worked on immediately - supposedly an update in august will add html5 - too slow it needs to be added in asap.
  • Documents - need the ability to drop documents directly from zune software and sync with office mobile.
  • Camera - htc needs to fix the color problems with this camera; they fixed it in the htc hd2 so it shouldnt be a problem fixing it in the htc hd7.

Hands down this is one of the best initial Windows Phone 7 devices out there; this is nothing new from htc - they make really exceptional hardware for Microsoft's operating systems. I hope to purchase the next HTC phone they make with Windows Phone 7 down the road ;)
